| I founded CapitalWomen after graduating from a degree in International Leisure and Tourism Management. During this time it was evident to me that in todays fast moving society, 'vacation planning' leaned more towards taking regular short breaks rather than long haul holidays.
After studying the gay holiday markets, both commercially and amongst smaller networks, I found that tourist opportunities targeted at gay women, were virtually non-existent in comparison to the male gay tourist market place. At the time I graduated, it was unfortuntately the tragic 9/11, therefore this impacted in a big way on the tourism industry and recruitment was on hold. I vowed then, that I would work in another industry, but still feed my passion by working on providing a service for gay women in my own time. With the growing need for professional gay women to take a break from work commitments and to meet like – minded, gay companions, CapitalWomen’s focus is on organising interesting, fun and sophisticated environments to meet these needs.
Having been at various London based networking events myself, I also discovered that although progress has been made to create more ‘non – scene’ opportunities for gay women, it was still not always easy for some women to connect. Sitting at a dinner table and changing seats half way through a meal, made some women feel too self – conscious, or even offensive to the person they had been sitting next to in the first place!
By organising more than one activity at the same event, CapitalWomen aims to take these social dining events that one step further to create a more relaxed environment for women to get an opportunity to talk to each other in a more natural way. These would ordinarily include a cultural or sightseeing activity combined with a dining event, giving the opportunity to walk and talk, aswell as dine and talk, thus enabling more successful networking. CapitalWomen's uniqueness lies in its combination of culture and social networking...giving you the environment to create life-long memories with some companions, in a way that you may never have had the opportunity to experience before...
